Picture – Plum, Pear, Peach trees 2 years later. Pretty flowers
Apr 9th, 2010 by Tom

Last year the peach tree (far right) flowered a few branches. This year it is full of flowers. No flowers last year on the plum tree (far left) but this year a few branches have some nice flowers. The pear tree (center left and hard to see) looks like a few flowers will show up, but the tree hasn’t really budded yet. Only the tips of the branches seems to have what looks like might be flowers.

I always equate the pear tree with the the Christmas tree from the Charlie brown special of years gone by. It has only a half dozen branches and the are spread apart from each other so it always looks like it is about to die.

Epsom Salt in the garden?
Mar 28th, 2010 by Tom

I came across this link: Why I use Epsom Salt in the garden that has me interested in trying Epsom Salt in the garden to promote growth. So I’ll head to the store in a bit to pick some up.

I think this is best for green leafy vegetables (and probably other plants as well. But I don’t know all the details. I guess I’ll start researching to find out what I can about Epsom salt and gardening. The only think I heard prior to this is that it reduced blossom end rot.

Garlic Sprouting, buds bursting!
Mar 17th, 2010 by Tom

The lawn is starting to green up. My fruit trees are starting to burst. It won’t be long now before leaves are on the tree!

Home depot had their fruit trees out. I’m going to buy a few fruit trees I think.

Will hot peppers keep ants away?
Mar 13th, 2010 by Tom

I have ants all over my yard and they climb my fruit tries. I’m wondering if I plant some hot pepper plants at the base of the tree if it will keep the ants away. I’m also wondering if planting hot peppers near watermelon and pumpkins if it will keep away bunnies and other types of animals that eat the leaves of those plants.

Anyone know if this tactic will work?
