Took my son out for a poison ivy hunt.
Apr 19th, 2010 by Tom

We have a lot of poison ivy around the edges of our lawn so we took out the poison ivy killer. After showing my son what poison ivy looked like I had him point out where the poison ivy was growing. I think it is good that he gets experience in identifying dangerous plants. He had fun with the hunt and was proud he found 10 or so plants to defeat.

Hydroponic cucumbers starting today.
Apr 11th, 2010 by Tom

I cleaned out my mess after about 4 months without my hydroponics running. The water was full of gunk. I don’t know what the slime was, but I think it was algae.

Anyway, the water is crystal clear now as I don’t have any nutrients to add. Well, thats a lie, I have some earth juice but I’d rater use general hydroponics stuff because it is thinner and less apt to clog the sprayers.

I’m not saying that earth juice clogs sprayers but I fell better using the General Hydroponics stuff. I’ll order some FloraNova grow tonight. Its much thinner than Earth Juice. Sure, it seems more chemically and less earthy, but I can live with that. I’ll save the Earth Juice for anything I want to grow “organically.”

The seeds should be fine for a few weeks without any food but I’ll probably add the nutrients (in a diluted solution) when I get them in a few days.

With the hydroponics in my basement people will have something interesting to see on the webcam again.

Rosary beads from roses.. Yup
Apr 10th, 2010 by Tom

I came across this link today http://www.rose-bushes.com/pages/how-to-make-rose-beads-from-rose-bushes showing how to make beads from roses. These beads would be great to incorporate into a rosary for a cool gift from a crafter for a first communion or confirmation.
