The red star peaches from the tree I planted last spring tasted so good that I love the idea of a peach tree in the back yard.  However, the fact they are semi-freestone and were't free stone this year was kind of disappointing.  To counter this, I picked up an Elberta peach today from The Gardner's Spot in Leominster, Ma.  They have a great 1/2 price sale going on so I got it for $16.00.  I'm looking forward to some more peaches next year, hopefully all freestone, but it doesn't hurt to hedge your bets.   I'm also hoping that having two different varieties will help with pollination. Though from what I hear, peaches really don't need another variety as most if not all are self-pollinating.
